Polio Survivors Registry: Polio survivors who join the Polio Survivors Registry receive a comprehensive information package on post-polio syndrome; along with a free subscription to our newsletter, local chapter newsletters and bulletins on news and events.

Health Care Professionals Registry: educating the health care community is a very important part of Post-polio Canada. You can ask Post-polio Canada to send an information package to your doctor and other health care professionals.

Education and Information: education is the core function of Post-polio Canada. In addition to distributing information to people who join the registry, Post-polio Canada also offers resources on the late effects of polio and post-polio syndrome.

Support Groups: when you are coming to terms with new symptoms, it is important to know that you are not alone. Post-polio Canada’s support groups organize local meetings and seminars, provide information, support and encouragement. Contact Post-polio Canada to find a support group in your area. There you will find other polio survivors who are ready to answer many of your questions and share their personal experiences.

Conferences: Post-polio Canada and its member groups organize conferences, seminars and workshops on the Late Effects of Polio and Post-Polio Syndrome.

Mental Health and Addiction Services are available to anyone who is concerned about their own or someone else's mental health or substance misuse. Services may include such things as:

- Supported Work Programs
- Social and Leisure Programs

Mental Health:

- Treatment and referral for adults (19+) with moderate to severe emotional, psychological, and/or mental health difficulties who need help urgently, and/or who are at risk of suicide
- Community support and education for people with significant psychiatric illnesses
- Self referrals will be accepted as well as those made by physicians and other health and/or social service providers

Addictions:

- Self referral
- Call to make an Intake appointment
- Show up (24 hours clean) for drop-in groups at noted times
- Daily morning drop-in -Early Recovery Group (ERP): Part 1 9:30-10:15; Part 2 10:30-11:30. Must be 24 hours clean to attend
- Addiction Recovery Education Group (AREG): for those wanting to understand substance addiction. Geared towards community workers, family, friends, landlords and employers. Call for more information and to register
- Co-dependency Education Series -Co-ed (men and women) Tuesdays 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. in the Cedar Room at the Public Health building, 961 England Ave., Courtenay. Must be 24 hours clean to attend
- Daily point person available 8:30-9 a.m. and 3:30-4 p.m. to take inquiry calls
- Client-centered alcohol and drug related recovery/treatment counselling for adults (19+)
- Counselling focuses on issues stemming from client's own use or someone else's alcohol and drug use
- Assessment and referral
- Treatment planning
- Psychiatric consultation
