Accountant / Director of Finanace

Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Thursday; 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday
Duties:

General Duties: - Record financial transactions utilizing established chart of accounts; - Maintain subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating and posting transactions using Sage 50 accounting software; - Secure financial information by completing weekly database backup; - Maintain confidentiality of all financial and other information; - Balance subsidiary accounts by reconciling entries; - Maintain general ledger by transferring subsidiary account summaries; - Balance general ledger by preparing a trial balance and reconciling entries; - Maintain records by filing documents, reports, correspondence, etc.; - Prepare financial reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information and trends; - Develop written protocols for all activities and procedures, e.g., payroll, bill payment, bank deposit, etc.; - Maintain accounting controls by adhering to all policies and procedures, and complying with federal and provincial law. Payroll: - Administer bi-weekly payroll by collecting, calculating and entering data; - Process electronic payroll deposits and / or issue pay cheques; - Remit withholding tax and other deductions from payroll within specified time limits. Manage Multiple Departments: - Enter department revenue and expenditures utilizing Sage 50 accounting software; - Produce monthly departmental income and expense statements, analyze data, report and submit recommendations - Maintain Excel spreadsheets for each program department, enter actuals monthly; - Monitor and analyze program expenditures, report anomalies, make recommendations. Manage Multiple Bank Accounts: - Maintain financial records for one non-profit society and two for-profit companies; - Receive cheques from funders and others, prepare bank deposits; - Process bill payments by cheque, electronic or on-line bill payment; - Reconcile bank statements monthly by comparing statements with general ledger.

Requirements:

- Diploma or degree in related field; - Previous experience in financial administration of a non-profit society; - Ability to analyze data and provide management with recommendations; - Assume a leadership role in the financial management of the organization; - Develop strategies to improve the overall financial standing of the organization; - Create opportunities to expand and enhance the growth and development of the organization; - Be an integral part of the management team.
