Operations Centre Manager

Duties: The role of Operations Centre Manager requires an experienced entrepreneurial leader with a working understanding of the not-for-profit business and operation of a vibrant centre. Reporting to the VIMSS Board “Operations Committee”; the full time Manager is responsible for all operational aspects of the Centre including – development and delivery of all programs; sales of space and booking the dorm rooms; caretaking, repair and maintenance of the building; hiring and training of all staff and financial results of the Centre. Other desirable attributes would be an understanding and ability for fund raising and grant writing to help support the overall financial well-being of the Vancouver Island Mountain Sport Society.
Requirements: Related Degree and appropriate management experience, first aid/CPR certification. Experience and personal experience in and leading outdoor (mountain) experiential education and (mountain) sport athlete and gym programs. Experience supervising other staff. Strong leadership, communication, flexibility and organization skills. Grant writing experience and success would be an asset. Fluency in English (written/spoken) required, other languages an asset. Time management skills and the ability to understand and prioritize tasks. Computer literacy with experience in Word, Excel, scheduling, an accounting program and data base management. Medical fitness and ability to perform all assigned duties. Experience and understanding of caretaking, maintenance and ‘trouble shooting’ repairs with an appreciation of that ‘a clean, maintained facility is a major part of the guest experience’. Be able to provide a criminal record check that confirms ability to work with Society finances and around children. The ideal candidate should be a self-motivated visionary that not only ensures the day to day tasks are completed but understands and is motivated to better the business of the Centre and the Society with strategic thinking and extra effort and action combined with his or her broad based experience. Ideally, the candidate should be eligible for partnership funding with Provincial or Federal Government or other grants for small business which would allow training in areas not on candidates resume.

Notes: There potentially is a live-in suite available at the VIMC. Presently VIMSS has a live-in caretaker but this could be a discussion point in any negotiation of the position. This position is required to be very independent. Work will be wide in variety which will include split shifts, evenings and weekends. Salary: Based on experience and grant eligibility.
