Duties: Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Valley Families Coordinator provides programming and activities: To promote the engagement of parents in their children’s development, learning and wellbeing. To contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of information, advice and support to parents of young children aged 0-6 leading to better outcomes for all. To accomplish this, the Valley Families Coordinator is responsible for developing and organizing play and learning based groups for children 0-6 and their families. This includes session planning, sourcing appropriate resources and activities, program delivery, monitoring and evaluation and consulting with community partners. DUTIES Develop, select and deliver appropriate activities for children and families within a range of community settings. Publicize program and provide accurate information regarding activities by phone, email, in writing and in person to the families and community partners. Ensure that the Valley Families program has up-to-date information, resources and advice available to parents in an accessible format. Plan, deliver and evaluate sessions and activities to encourage the engagement of parents in their children’s learning, development and wellbeing. Develop effective outreach links with local community groups Help to identify groups/individual families who need more intensive support and signpost them to community partners for follow up.
Requirements: EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Post-Secondary Degree in Early Childhood Education or Family Development or a combination of on the job training and experience. Experience in program development and coordination, Knowledge or familiarity with social and health services targeting family and child development in the Comox Valley desired Experience working with volunteers JOB SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent interpersonal and written skills Excellent knowledge of digital programs including Microsoft office, Windows 10 and social media. Facilitation skills Efficient time and general management skills Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
