The Creative Employment Access Society (CEAS) is a well-established non-profit organization providing employment transition programs and services under the name of the “The Job Shop” since 1995. Centrally located in downtown Courtenay, the Job Shop’s employment advisors and modern facility supports learning and provides free job search assistance for the residents of the Comox Valley.

As a Board Member, you will be required to attend a monthly in-person meeting that occurs in the evening as well as special Board meetings that may occur once or twice per year. More specifically, your duties alongside your fellow board members will include:

• Oversee the CEO and approve plans working within the Carver model of Policy Governance.
• Produce and review written governing policies that, at the broadest levels, address each category of an organizational decision including policies related to ends (organizational product, effects, benefits, outcomes, recipients, and their relative worth i.e. what goods for which recipients at what cost), executive limitations (constraints on executive authority that establish the boundaries within which all executive activities and decision making must take place), governance process (specification of how the Board conceives, carries out, and monitors its own task, and the Board-CEO linkage (how power is delegated and proper use monitored along with the authority and accountability of the CEO role).

Individuals with vision, ideas and a commitment to Carver’s model of Policy Governance, and with management skills and backgrounds in areas such as Finance, Human Resources Management, Legal, Business or Marketing will excel in this Board role.
