Housing Support / Outreach Worker

Wage: $22.02 - $24.50 / Hour
Hours: 24 Hours / Week
Duties: - Meet with individuals experiencing homelessness, in the locations where they are spending time, to provide support.
- Identify, relationship-build, and engage with unhoused or precariously housed individuals on an outreach basis.
- Support clients as appropriate with housing searches and assisting with housing forms and other documents as necessary.
- Support clients by accompanying them to viewings and advocating with private and public housing providers in the Comox Valley.
- Provide coaching to clients on tenant rights and other housing related skills and knowledge.
- Liaise with private and public housing providers and provide mediation and support to clients at risk of losing their housing or experiencing episodic homelessness.
- Provide outreach and accompaniment focused on improving housing stability.
- Support access to detox, treatment and other recovery supports. Supports access to harm reduction supplies.
- Hold strong personal and professional boundaries and identify/ manage risk safely.
- Maintain an awareness of community resources, including health care services, social, economic, recreational, employment, and educational services and resources, and other agencies, and shares that information as required.
Requirements: - Previous work experience in Human Services / Housing sector will be considered an asset.
- Must feel comfortable interacting with the Comox Valley homelessness and vulnerable multi-barriered population.
- Strong awareness of cultural diversity and sound knowledge of current social issues such as poverty, homelessness, mental illness, addictions, domestic violence, child protection, etc.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Highly organized and able to work under pressure
- Sound knowledge of community resources and methods of access.
- First Aid certification an asset.
- Must have a clear criminal record history and ability to pass a vulnerable sector check.
- Must have a valid BC driver’s license and clean driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Working knowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act and applicable Health and Safety regulations.
- Ability to build and maintain professional, confidential relationships with multi-barriered people.
- Strong skills in crisis intervention, mediation and conflict resolution.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic computer systems.
- Ability to file and maintain detailed reports.
