Preparing for the Workplace – Tip #4

RULE FOUR:    Ask!

Many people shy away from asking questions for fear of it making them appear stupid or incompetent, but the truth is — when starting a new job, it usually takes a lot of questions to be able to understand your job. Rather than asking for help or asking for clarification, we often spend days trying to problem solve it ourselves and this is not only stressful, and often unnecessary, but also inefficient. It might take weeks to learn important information on your own if you don’t ask questions or you’re afraid to repeat the question more than once because you don’t understand (or it hasn’t been made clear). In truth, when it comes to understanding what’s important to know, there are no stupid questions, so ask!
