Preparing for the Workplace – Tip #5

Get Along With Others

Getting along with others is encompassed by many common sense rules such as, treat others as you would like to be treated. Being respectful, not calling someone names or being insulting (even if “you’re just kidding”), sharing, consideration of others and just being nice are all things we learned in kindergarten or what mothers called, “playing nice.” As adults, we may have forgotten some of these valuable lessons and there isn’t a kindergarten teacher around to help remind us. Getting along always begins with the understanding that someone else has a different way of seeing the same thing and then taking a few seconds to consider their point of view can bring about a compromise.
