Medical Office Assistant-Part-time

Wage: $15-19.50/hour depending on experience
Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Duties:

1. Reception responsibilities: Greets and registers arriving patients. Verify and update patient information, links family member charts. Manage patient waiting area including filling rooms, and maintains a clean and orderly reception and patient waiting area Phones- answers incoming calls, books patients, redirects calls/messages Schedules, confirms and coordinates patient appointments accurately according to guidelines Answers a multi-line switchboard with tact, diplomacy and in a timely fashion. Receives and processes payments for incoming forms. Checks patient MSP validity as required with calling Teleplan or online Faxes and enters Drivers Exams Ensures patient confidentiality 2. MOA responsibilities: Runs urine dips and pregnancy tests as required. Performs eye exams, heights or weights or sets up excisions as required by patient visit. Refreshes/cleans patient rooms between patients Restocks patient rooms at the end of the day Provides administrative support to the physicians. Cleans and sterilizes materials and instruments. Runs autoclave 3. Clerical responsibilities: Processes incoming and outgoing mail. Submits referrals, diagnostic imaging and lab forms, and other as required by fax or e-fax. Monitors incoming faxes. Scanning of documents/new patient charts Confirms referral receipt with specialist offices. Manages chart transfer requests

Requirements:

Qualifications: Education and Experience: Relevant Post Secondary education Previous related experience in a medical office environment and asset Previous experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) particularly Profile by Intrahealth an asset but not essential. MOA training An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered Job Skills and Demonstrated Abilities: Knowledge of medical terminology Strong computer skills Ability to effectively operate a switchboard/phone system Ability to prioritize and perform a variety of tasks under pressure Strong problem solving skills Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Ability to interact effectively with patients and health care providers Personal Attributes: Organized and efficient Professional Courteous, respectful, empathic and helpful Self motivated Working Conditions: Clinical patient environment Direct contact with patients, some of whom may potentially be infectious
